Hey all! I'm away from my computer for a couple of weeks (for my handfasting! YAY!), but there will still be posts! This week's is a bit shorter though.
This was a commission I recently finished up that you might have seen in some of my tutorials on here. It's a perfect example for many tutorials because it used so many different techniques and covered a lot of steps in my drawing process.
I also got to learn a few new techniques while working on this piece. I had never drawn a star field before, so I found a pretty cool way to do it so I didn't have to draw every single star individually! Super cool! If people are interested, I can do a write up on how I did that, or any of the steps in this drawing.
Click "Read More" to see a gif of the steps in progress!
Step 1: Perspective guidelines, mainly for the dimension doors, but also for the angles in some of then dimensions themselves.
Step 2: Sketch! (and the glow around the dimension doors)
Step 3: Inks! See how I ink in this post.
Step 4: Flat color the characters. I like to do the characters first so I can plan the color palate of the background around their colors.
Step 5: Shade the characters!
Step 6: Color the dimensions. I did do flats first and then shade them after all the flats were done, but I didn't make it a separate image in the gif for whatever reason. (and add the bright white highlights to the characters)
Step 7: Background! This has multiple parts, including the solid flat color and then the gradient, but I again didn't feel the need to make it a separate image in the gif (mainly because I combined those layers before I made this!)
Step 8: Add stars! Done!
