These are the sketches I did while on vacation. Nothing super fancy, but it was nice to stretch my muscles away from my desk! I wish I had done more life drawing though! Curse my other interests!
This week's Flashback Friday is a fantastic illustration of how drawing every day improves you rapidly. I thought this piece was much older, but when I found it in my old DeviantArt account, it said it was from 2009. Well, I had uploaded other much older art to the website at a later date, right? Wrong. Most likely this piece was from 2009, and I just blocked out how poorly I drew!
Around the same time I sketched this piece, I was also drawing other humans, though this is admittedly the best proportioned. It wasn't long after this piece that I discovered the my love of anthropomorphic animals and began drawing my characters with more animalistic traits.
This week has been all about digital work again! I managed to finish the large reference sheet from last week and started on this cute otter girl. She is going to be digitally colored and shaded as an example for my digital commissions!
As you can see, I still use a traditional pencil to sketch out an image before digitally inking it. There's something visceral about always starting in a sketchbook with just the pencil and I.
